Mehriban Aliyeva: “Nothing should overlap the view of the fortress walls”

Nothing should overlap the view of the Icheri Sheher fortress walls, said the Azerbaijani First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva.

In recent days, the media and social networks have been actively discussing the issue of the construction of a new building in the state historical and architectural reserve Icheri Sheher along the fortification wall. Its metal structure turned out to be high in the fortress wall, and members of the public expressed concern about the damage to the architectural appearance of this historical monument. However, in an interview with the Azerbaijani service of the BBC, the first vice-president of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva said that the height of the objects located along the fortress walls at Icheri Sheher will remain at the same level as before. Nothing should overlap the view of the fortress walls, she stressed. Icheri Sheher has always been a popular place for citizens and tourists, the first vice-president continued. Only buildings that were not in suitable state were rebuilt. Every fortress, every wall, every stone has always been the focus of attention of the state, Aliyeva noted. “At one time, “Icheri Sheher” precisely because of the shortcomings here, was included in the “black list” of UNESKO. Subsequently, many events were held, foreign experts were invited, their opinions were studied with their support all shortcomings have been eliminated,” said the Vice President.
