Iran: Coronavirus death toll stands at almost 6K

Iran’s COVID-19 death toll has almost reached 6 thousand, as 80 people have died of the virus in the last 24 hours. Thus, the fatalities recorded in the past 24 hours brought to 5,877, Report says, citing RT.

Health ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour said 1,073 people tested positive for the virus that causes COVID-19, which took the total number of infections to 93,657 in Iran. 73 791 of those admitted to hospital have recovered and discharged.

On December 31, 2019, Chinese authorities announced an outbreak of pneumonia in China’s Wuhan, the causative agent of which is a new type of coronavirus officially named COVID-19.

On March 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of a new coronavirus a pandemic.
