EU expresses support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity

High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell has voiced the EU’s support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity, independence and sovereignty.

“The EU remains committed to supporting the territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty of all its partners, including Azerbaijan. The declaration of the 2017 Eastern Partnership Summit clearly states this,” Borrell said.

“The EU is committed to supporting the peaceful settlement of conflicts in a certain format. The Union is supporting the efforts and proposals of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs, including the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, for a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” the EU official stressed.

“Given the so-called “presidential and parliamentary elections” in Nagorno-Karabakh on 31 March 2020, the European Union reiterates that it does not recognize the constitutional and legal framework within which they were held. This event cannot prejudice the determination of the future status of Nagorno-Karabakh or the outcome of the ongoing negotiation process,” Borrell said, referring to the statement issued by the Spokesperson for the EU External Action Service.
