​179 fell victim to the pandemic in Spain


Spain’s daily death toll from the coronavirus fell to 179 on Saturday, down from 229 on the previous day, Report says, citing TASS.

An anti-record was set in the country on April 1 – then 950 patients fell victim to the pandemic. The death toll since the beginning of the outbreak has reached 26,478 in Spain. Meanwhile, the number of confirmed cases increased by 604 in 24 hours.

The total number of cases detected through PCR tests reached 223,578. So far, 133,952 patients have recovered, figure increased by 2,804 per day.

On December 31, 2019, Chinese authorities announced an outbreak of pneumonia in China’s Wuhan, the causative agent of which is a new type of coronavirus officially named COVID-19.

On March 11, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak of a new coronavirus a pandemic.
