CIS promptly responds to the coronavirus pandemic

The countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) are responding adequately and promptly to the coronavirus pandemic. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov told reporters after the session of the Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs of CIS countries held through a video conference, Report says, citing TASS.

“We stated that, overall, the CIS is promptly responding to the changing reality and developing agreed actions to counter influence the pandemic,” he said and added that the issue on the fight against COVID-19 would be discussed during the session of the Prime Ministers of CIS countries on May 29.

“Today, we agreed to continue working on improving these mechanisms and strengthening the legal framework of the Commonwealth on the prevention and control of infectious diseases. In this regard, we agreed to speed up the development of two draft agreements proposed by Russian Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing (Rospotrebnadzor) on cooperation in the field of sanitary protection of territories of the CIS countries and on prevention and response to public health emergencies of a sanitary and epidemiological nature.”
