Epidemiological situation in Georgia improving

Today, the epidemiological situation in Georgia is improving, Amiran Gamkrelidze, Head of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health, told Report.

However, this positive dynamic should not cause relief, he added.

“Georgia is already in the eighth week of the internal spread of the coronavirus, and the number of new cases is decreasing each day,” Gamkrelidze noted.

The expert stressed that a new wave of COVID-19 is predicted, and therefore, full preparation is required in all areas.

Georgia has confirmed 647 cases of the novel coronavirus. As many as 372 infected patients have now recovered, while eleven patients have died. Three Georgian citizens have been transferred from neighboring countries to Georgia for treatment. Currently, 4373 people are kept in a 14-day mandatory quarantine, while 386 patients remain under observation in hospitals.

Georgia declared a state of emergency until May 22 to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
