High economic tensions pose a serious threat to Armenia: Ex-official

The growing rate of the spread of COVID-19, the significant increase in economic and social tensions are a serious threat to Armenia, said Artur Vanetsyan, former Director of the National Security Service. Report informs citing Armenian media.
“To avoid a humanitarian catastrophe, a new—anti-crisis—government is needed, which, by uniting all able forces, will bring the country out of this difficult situation,” he added.
So far, Armenia reported over 5,000 COVID-19 cases and 70 related deaths. On May 14, the Armenian government decided to extend the state of emergency another month, until June 13.
