Iran’s COVID-19 cases top 140,000
As of May 27, as many as 2,080 new patients with COVID-19 were diagnosed in Iran raising the tally to 141,591, according to the Health Ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour.
In the past 24 hours, 56 COVID-19 patients lost their lives, and the death toll stood at 7,564, said the spokesperson.
According to the health official, 2,551 patients are in critical condition, and 111,176 others have recovered.
In Iran, one of the countries in the Middle East hardest hit by the virus first detected COVID-19 in the city of Qom on February 19.
The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in late 2019 in China’s Hubei province, and the virus has spread to 212 countries and territories since then.
To date, COVID-19 cases surpassed 5,699,000 globally, resulting in more than 2,444,000 recoveries and over 352,000 deaths.
On February 11, the WHO officially named the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as COVID-19, and on March 11, declared it a pandemic.
