Iran’s COVID-19 deaths top nearly 8,000
The head of the Iranian Health Ministry’s Public Relations Office said that 64 more Iranians died from coronavirus over the past 24 hours bringing the total deaths to 7,942.
Jahanpour said that 3,117 new infected cases had been detected since yesterday, raising the tally to 157,562.
He also noted that 2,565 cases are in critical condition and hospitalized in ICU.
A total of 123,077 patients have recovered from the infection, the Iranian health official noted.
In Iran, one of the countries in the Middle East hardest hit by the virus first detected COVID-19 in the city of Qom on February 19.
The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in late 2019 in China’s Hubei province, and the virus has spread to 212 countries and territories since then.
To date, COVID-19 cases surpassed 6,388,000 globally, resulting in more than 2,922,000 recoveries and over 377,000 deaths.
On February 11, the WHO officially named the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as COVID-19, and on March 11, declared it a pandemic.
