Messi to extend contract with Barcelona

Barcelona made it two wins from two games to extend their lead at the top of La Liga, and it was the sorcerer and his apprentice who got the goals.

Just a week before his 33rd birthday, Lionel Messi scored his 21st league goal of the season to seal the win. It came after 17-year-old Ansu Fati had broken the deadlock with his fifth goal of the season.

The Spanish club Barcelona will soon agree on a new contract with the team’s captain Lionel Messi, Report says, citing Mundo Deportivo.

The 33-year-old striker’s new contract runs until 2023 but will be based on a 1 + 1 scheme. In other words, a year before the end of the agreement, Messi will determine his future.

Lionel Messi’s current contract expires in the summer of 2021. The star player joined then Barcelona Academy in 2000 and has been playing in the team since 2003.
