Portugal’s capital back into lockdown ahead of Champions League arrival

Portugal has re-imposed quarantine in capital Lisbon, which will host 2019/20 UEFA Champions League final matches, as COVID-19 cases climb again.

People in 19 districts are only allowed to leave home to go to work and meet their needs, Report says.

So far, Portugal has confirmed over 42,000 COVID-19 cases and 1,500 related deaths.

Lisbon had been chosen as the venue for the 2019/20 Champions League climaxbut this latest development could put this under threat.

To this point, Portugal has not had the same consequences related to COVID-19 that Spain and Italy have, but this is a worrying development with regards to public health.

The Portuguese government has begun to take restrictive measures to curb the latest outbreak of the virus. This is a new situation to what was the case in Lisbon when UEFA made their decision.
