COVID-19: India records highest single-day spike 

With 22,771 new infections, highest single-day peak, India’s COVID-19 tally on Saturday climbed up to 6,48,315, Report says, citing TASS. The death toll in the country reached 18,655 after 442 new fatalities recorded in the same period.

Of the total 6,48,315 cases, 2,35,433 are active cases, while the recovered cases reached 3,94,227

Yesterday, Drug Controller General of India reported that clinical trials of a vaccine against coronavirus infection, called COVAXIN, have begun. It is an inactivated vaccine created from the SARS-CoV-2 virus strain developed by the Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech company. The production of the vaccine is expected in mid-August.
