Armenia: COVID-19 tally tops 40 thousand

In the past 24 hours, 200 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Armenia, bringing the nationwide case tally to 40 185, Report says, citing the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health.

The death toll reached 785, as eight others fell victim to the virus. So far, 32 395 people have recovered from the infection.

There are currently 6 777 active Covid-19 patients in Armenia.

Notably, Armenia reported its first coronavirus infection on March 1, in a citizen returning from neighboring Iran, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan wrote on Facebook.

The 29-year-old, who arrived in the former Soviet nation on Friday, went to a doctor because he was not feeling well.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in late 2019 in China’s Hubei province, and the virus has spread to over 200 countries and territories since then.

On February 11, the WHO officially named the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as COVID-19, and on March 11, declared it a pandemic.
