Indian PM: Three COVID-19 vaccines in testing stage

India is conducting trials of three vaccines against coronavirus infection, and the plan is already ready to distribute them to citizens, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said this on Saturday in his speech in honor of the national holiday of Independence Day.

“Three vaccines are at different stages of testing. When scientists give the go-ahead, we will be ready with a production plan. We have a roadmap of how the vaccine will reach every Indian in the shortest possible time,” the Prime Minister informed.

“Every Indian will receive a health ID card as part of the national digital health program. Whenever you visit a doctor or pharmacy, it will be noted on the health card and in your profile at the national level. From doctor’s prescription to recommended medicine, everything will be indicated in your health profile.” noted Modi, speaking from the balcony of the Red Fort.

Earlier, Indian companies Zydus Cadila and Bharat Biotech announced that they had begun the first phases of trials of their ZyCoV-D and COVAXIN vaccines. Besides, the Serum Institute of India announced the start of the final stage of experiments in the country for the Covishield coronavirus vaccine developed by the University of Oxford and AstraZeneca.
