Georgia’s Finance Minister elected head of ADB

The 53rd annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) was held online on September 17-18, the Georgian Finance Ministry told Report’s local bureau.

During the conference, Georgian Finance Minister Ivane Machavariani was elected Chairman of the ADB Board for one year. In 2021, Georgia will host the bank’s annual meeting.

Speaking at the event, The Minister said Georgia attaches great importance to regional cooperation and integration and supports the free trade policy: 

 

“It is essential to develop transport infrastructure, trade, and customs relations with the bank’s member and border countries. We must build our future on the principles of greater integration, greater openness, and fewer barriers.”

Machavariani noted that the ADB could make a significant contribution to strengthening the role of human capital in economic recovery.
