What increases risk of death with COVID 9 times?

Scientists have identified a factor that significantly increases the risk of dying with coronavirus disease, Report informs, referring to RIA Novosti.

An international team analyzed the data of 568 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 from February to July 2020, as well as their dental records, according to MedicalXpress.

It turned out that just under half of the study participants (45 percent) had gum disease.

After taking into account the complication factors of COVID, such as age, gender, body mass index, and the presence of bad habits, it turned out that patients with gum disease are 3.5 times more likely to end up in the intensive care unit, 4.5 times more likely to need a ventilator and nine times more likely to die with COVID.

According to the researchers, blood markers indicating inflammation in the body were significantly higher in patients with coronavirus who had gum disease. Scientists believe the inflammatory response may explain the increased complication rate in this group of people.
