Renewal of Azerbaijan’s railway infrastructure begins

A video conference has been held on the project which is being implemented under the agreement between Azerbaijan and one of the world’s leading consulting companies, McKinsey & Company, to prepare the ‘Corporate Strategy 2030’ for the Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, Report informs.

The Azerbaijan Railways Chairman Javid Gurbanov noted that thanks to the increased attention to the railway industry and the ongoing reforms, the company’s financial obligations have been optimized, and operational efficiency is rising. Also, work has begun on updating the railway infrastructure and rolling stock.

Noting that steps are being taken in the country’s large state structures to improve corporate governance, Javid Gurbanov emphasized the importance of joint efforts in developing the railway sector.

The establishment of a railway connection with Nakhchivan after the liberation of Azerbaijani lands from occupation will expand the possibilities of influencing regional transport flows and create new opportunities in the transport sector.

Representatives of the worldwide management consulting firm made a presentation on the progress of the project. International experts on the railway sector presented examples of the most successful experience in this area, provided appropriate consultations, and discussed the company’s strategic goals and other issues.

The meeting participants also discussed issues of increasing the railway company’s commercial potential and attracting global cargo, as well as the impact of socio-economic processes taking place in the region on the railway sector.
