Malaysia imposes strict restrictions amid surging COVID-19 cases

The Malaysian government is introducing the “Movement Control Order,” a set of strict measures to control the spread of coronavirus infection throughout the country, from May 12 to June 7, Report informs, citing RIA Novosti.

“With daily cases exceeding 4,000 cases, and with 37,396 active cases and 1,700 deaths as of May 10, Malaysia is facing a third wave that could break into a national crisis,” Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said.

All inter-district and interstate travel will be prohibited unless for work and economic purposes, health matters, emergencies, vaccination appointments, and long-distance couples, he said.

“Mass gatherings such as weddings, dinners, as well as official government and private events, are prohibited.

“Childcare centers, nurseries, kindergartens are allowed to operate in full compliance with SOPs,” he added.

Malaysia has taken strict control measures regarding the current outbreak of coronavirus infection, during which the number of daily COVID-19 cases increased to three thousand or more people.
