Kazakhstan loses food independence | Report.az

Kazakhstan, which currently imports about 70% of its crops, is on the verge of losing its food independence, Report mentions, referring to local media.

According to Senate member Akhylbek Kurishbaev, the quality of seeds in the country is declining, and most of the imported seeds do not suit the local climate and soil.

He believes that it is wrong to direct public funds allocated to agriculture for imports. The senator stressed the importance of creating productive and hardy local varieties resistant to climate, increasing state support for the seed sector, noting that the necessary funds have not yet been allocated to local research centers.
