Tehran tightens Covid restrictions as infections spike

The central bazaar and banks will be closed due to the tough situation with COVID-19 in the Iranian capital Tehran, Report informs, citing RIA Novosti.

“By the national headquarters’ decision, the Tehran bazaar is closed for six days due to the difficult conditions with COVID-19. At present, Tehran is in the red zone of the spread of coronavirus infection,” the chairman of the Chamber of Trade Unions of Tehran, Qasem Node Farahani said.

The closure of banks in Tehran was announced by the secretary of the operational department at the headquarters for combating coronavirus, Babak Dinparast.

“Banks and commercial institutions in Tehran, as well as Alborz, are closed for six days,” the IRIB TV channel quotes Dinparast as saying.

The epidemiological situation in Iran continues to deteriorate due to COVID-19. During the day, 25,441 new cases of infection were detected in the country, the total number of cases increased to 3,548,704. The pandemic claimed the lives of 87,374 Iranians, 3,152,653 people recovered. Several regions of Iran are located in the red zone of the virus spread. Tehran, Khuzestan, and Baluchistan are experiencing the highest rate.
