Installation of new seismic station in 3 Azerbaijani regions to finish this year

Twenty-two seismic stations will be installed around Caspian and other volcanoes by the end of this year, head of the Republic Center of Seismological Service under the National Academy of Science of Azerbaijan, Gurban Yetirmishli, said.

The center director said the seismic stations acquired as part of the International Grant Project have already been delivered to the country. Wells have already been drilled in some places.

“Currently, works are underway in Ismayilli, Dashkasan, and Tovuz regions to erect fencing, lay sockets, and other communications. The process will complete by end-year,” he said.

Yetirmishli also noted that no strong earthquakes are expected in the country soon.

“Underground shocks are frequent. Thirty-five small tremors have been recorded from yesterday to this morning. The dynamics are also very active. Weak earthquakes sometimes occur. However, no devastating earthquakes are expected soon,” he added.
