Zakharova: Moscow ready to assist Turkey-Armenian rapprochement

Russia has always supported the improvement of the Armenian-Turkish relations, Russian Foreign Ministry’s Spokesperson Maria Zakharova said at a weekly briefing.

According to Report‘s Russian bureau, she recalled the Zurich protocols that provided for the phased improvement of ties.

“Russia did not just mediate but played an active role. Unfortunately, the initiatives were not implemented by the parties. We are now ready to provide every assistance to ensure the rapprochement of the two neighboring states based on mutual respect and with respect to each others’ interests,” Zakharova said.

According to her, mutually respecting relations between Turkey and Armenia and the normalization of the Azerbaijan-Armenia ties would serve peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
