Turkey’s Erdogan to chair OIC committee meeting

The 37th meeting of the Standing Committee on Economic and Trade Cooperation (COMCEC) of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) will be held in Istanbul on November 24-25.

The ministerial meeting will be chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Report informs, quoting Anadolu news agency.

The meeting will focus on the role of Islamic banking in combating coronavirus infection (COVID-19). The ministerial meeting will also evaluate draft resolutions prepared by high-level experts after technical discussions on the agenda of November 17-18.

The meeting will discuss the development of cooperation between the member countries of the COMCEC committee in trade, transport and communications, agriculture, tourism, poverty reduction, and finance.

In addition, the projects of the OIC Istanbul Arbitration Center and the Islamic Index Fund will be presented at the meeting.

COMCEC unites 57 member countries, 5 more countries have observer status in the committee. It is the main decision-making body at the ministerial level, convened annually since 1984, and implements many important projects and programs aimed at developing trade and economic cooperation between member countries.

The organization aims to find solutions to the development problems of Islamic countries.
