Deputy Minister: “Azerbaijan’s main goal is to restore historical-cultural monuments in post-conflict period”

“Historical and cultural monuments have been razed to the ground in territories liberated from the Armenian occupation. Unfortunately, the only explanation for this is the feeling of ethnic hatred against the Azerbaijani people,” Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Elnur Mammadov told “The Great Return: Revival of Culture,” conference, Report informs.

“Although we talk about peace in the post-conflict period, we still keep on our radar the issue of giving a proper legal assessment to previous crimes. The issue of the destruction of Azerbaijani historical and cultural monuments has been raised at the International Court of Justice. Our major target is to finalize the large-scale construction and restoration activities in the liberated territories as quickly as possible. The Azerbaijani government and the Ministry of Culture started initial inventory and monitoring activities in 2020. This work is continuing. Our main goal is to restore historical and cultural monuments in the post-conflict period and deliver a message of peace. We continue our efforts in this direction,” he said.
