‘Non-smokers are drugged…’
Chairman of the “Muslim Unity Movement” Taleh One of Bagirov’s supporters, Elshan Abbasov, has been arrested on drug charges
Member of the “Muslim Unity Movement”, chairman of the organization Taleh Bagirovfrom supporters of flour Elshan Abbasov has recently been arrested on drug charges.
It is claimed that, 8 grams of drugs were found on him. Family members say that, It is a lie that Abbasov was forcibly put in a car by several plainclothes men near his workplace in Barda and taken to Baku – the Main Department for Combating Organized Crime. Relatives claim that, those drugs also left the police themselves.
Abbasova was charged under Article 234.4.3 of the Criminal Code (acquisition, possession of large quantities of drugs for sale). This article provides for a sentence of 5 to 12 years in prison.
On March 14, the Baku Court of Appeal heard a complaint filed by Abbasov’s lawyer to change the measure of restraint and place him under house arrest during the investigation.
Lawyer Nemat Karimlitold RFE / RL according toa religious activist himself attended the trial. Judge Vaqif Mursaqulov did not satisfy the complaint and detained him.

Abbasov pleaded not guilty in court and said the drugs did not belong to him.
Relatives told RFE / RL that, he was pressured after his arrest:
“SnowThey put such conditions on the glass that, he was forced to sign that statement. A non-smoker was beaten with drugs. However, all the people of Barda know how brave and moral he is. ”
Family members added that, This is not the first time Abbasov has come under pressure. He took part in a hijab ban in October 2012 according to He was imprisoned for 1 year.
In 2017, he was arrested again for illegal possession of weapons and sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison on drug charges:

Chairman of the Muslim Union Movement Taleh A number of members of the organization, including Bagirov, are in custody.
They are public in the country.political criticizing the situation according to political claim that they were arrested by order.
