Border Nightmare: COVID is over, government extends…

“Many of my close relatives live in Georgia. At the beginning of the month, we had a good deed, and we managed to get permission from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to drive to the neighboring country. Now I can not return to the country. They say at the border that you have to tow the car to Azerbaijan and return by plane.

This was reported to Pressklub.az by a lawyer who did not want to be named. According to him, the fact that the country’s land borders have been closed for two years creates unimaginable deprivations for Azerbaijanis. “People are blessed, people can’t come and go, a small group can afford to buy plane tickets for the price of fire,” he said. Why do they oppress people, let them explain why they keep the border closed? ”The source added.

It should be noted that the borders in Azerbaijan will be closed from March 24, 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After this date, travel to and from the country is carried out by air, except for special permits. The price of air tickets is several times higher than the tariffs before that date. Despite all the protests from the public, the government does not intend to reduce the cost of air tickets or open a highway. On the contrary, the Cabinet of Ministers last week increased the price of air tickets to Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic by 10 manat.

Note that the term of the special quarantine regime in Azerbaijan has been extended until July 1. In response to a request from Pressklub.az, the Operations Headquarters said that there was no information on when the quarantine regime would be abolished and land borders would be opened. It should be noted that according to official statistics released yesterday, no one has been infected with the COVID-19 virus in the country.

In most countries of the world, the latest restrictions on pandemics are being lifted. For example, according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, from June 12, passengers traveling to the United States by air will not be required to have COVID-19 test results or a COVID-19 recovery certificate.

It should be noted that various socio-political organizations and public associations in the country periodically send a request to the Operations Headquarters regarding the reasons for keeping the borders closed, demanding that the situation be resolved in the interests of the people. The last such appeal was made by the Musavat Party yesterday.

Lawyer Hafiz Hasanov told Pressklub.az that according to the Constitution of Azerbaijan, every citizen has the right to enter and leave the country without obstacles. But for more than two years, the Cabinet of Ministers has been grossly violating the Constitution by depriving citizens of this right. According to him, this issue can be disputed in court.
