The resignation of the Prosecutor General was demanded

On May 8, 2017, the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the State Security Service issued a joint statement stating that a group of servicemen and civilians in the direction of Tartar passed information constituting a military secret to a foreign enemy. In May 2017, a criminal case was launched at the Military Prosecutor’s Office, and a group of servicemen and civilians were arrested.

Hundreds of servicemen, known as the “Tartar case”, were subjected to physical abuse and illegal interrogation on suspicion of secret cooperation with Armenians, and many died of their injuries.

On December 18, 2021, the Prosecutor General’s Office announced that some servicemen serving in the military units of the Ministry of Defense in the direction of Tartar, Aghdam, Beylagan districts in May-June 2017 killed people suspected of committing illegal acts. “The Military Prosecutor’s Office opened criminal cases on these facts, completed the preliminary investigation of 5 criminal cases against 19 defendants and sent them to court, where they were sentenced to various punishments,” he said.

On December 16, 2021, the Prosecutor General’s Office decided to resume criminal proceedings. The criminal case was transferred to the Prosecutor General’s Office, and the preliminary investigation was taken under the special control of the Prosecutor General.
