COVID-19 measures are being taken in ‘Coronavirus-free’ Turkmenistan

“The attention of the authorities shows the seriousness of the situation,” a reporter said

Although the authorities of Turkmenistan say that there is not even a single infection with the coronavirus in the country, they have strengthened the measures to prevent the disease.

According to the report of RFE/RL correspondents in this country on July 25, workers are spraying disinfectant on the streets, and people are being ordered to wear masks in the markets.

“People are used to not wearing masks. Now it is still not allowed. From July 25, children should bring alcohol and wet wipes to the kindergarten. All this creates panic among the population.” – said one of the radio reporters.

A new plan is being prepared

According to another reporter, the streets of the capital Ashgabat were filled with employees of the sanitary and epidemiology station over the weekend, who sprinkled chlorine in public places.

“The attention of the authorities shows the seriousness of the situation”, – a reporter said.

According to reporters, Turkmenistan will introduce new restrictions from August 1. Sources in the health authorities said that the government is currently working on a concrete action plan. If the plan is approved, the new restrictions could apply from August 1.

The government still claims that there is not a single case of coronavirus in the country, although in reality no one believes this claim.
