A fantastic address by the former defense minister

Armenia Member of Parliament,ArmeniaSeyran Ohanyan, a member of the faction and formerly the Minister of Defense of the country, made a surprising appeal with its absurdity. His statement was published in the Yerevan press:

I call our comrades-in-arms, comrades-in-arms and like-minded people, all our supporters, all state-oriented, conscious forces “FranceI call you to come to the square and join the fight.

Let’s stand next to “Artsakh”. We can still save “Artsakh” together. Azerbaijan troops Armenia We can remove it from the sovereign territory of the Republic and restore the fighting spirit of the Armenian people, the foundations of security and dignity.”

On the one hand, he seems to be the next harmless person in the center of Yerevan protest to the rally invites. There have been countless such rallies since Pashinyan came to power. On the other hand, he “turns” to “Artsakh”, which should be “saved” suddenly. But how to “save”? Especially from the mouth of the former defense minister. No matter who knows, Ohanyan did not know that Azerbaijan troops have never been in Armenia. That is, it would be more useful for him to reject strange ideas from his own head. As for “standing by” Karabakh, it is unlikely that this intention of Ohanyan and his over-concerned comrades will be accepted. Because even if they want to try it, it is not very convincing to let them into the territory of Azerbaijan via the new Lachin route.

But why does the former defense minister of Armenia say all this? Does he really think that such appeals, which are fantastic in content, will in some way strengthen the position of the systematic opposition, in whose ranks he holds an influential position, and political points, can gain popularity among the people? Or could there be other purposes?

Professor of Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (Korea), political scientist Rovshan Ibrahimov:

– Graduation season is already over. September is the month when classes start in universities and schools, and people return to their jobs. That is, the passive summer vacation is about to end, and of course the opposition is back on the streets of Armenian cities protest hopes to be able to restore its shares. And in this case, Ohanyan acts as a kind of new face, who did not participate in calls for previous protests.

As for Ohanyan’s idea to “drive the Azerbaijanis out of the territory of Armenia”, it should be taken into account that after a series of successful operations of the Azerbaijani army, there is a strong belief in this country that the Azerbaijani army is advancing deep into their territory. Even supposedly, border posts have been established there. But in order to say this with certainty, first of all, it is necessary to determine exactly where the state border is located. For this, it is possible to carry out delimitation and demarcation works, and only after that it is possible to confirm whether such events really happened.

Therefore, of course, such statements can be useful for Armenian citizens who no longer consider the Karabakh issue relevant, but are sensitive to the issue of Armenia’s territorial integrity, and can push them to take active steps. This may lead to more people coming to the next rallies than we saw in the late spring and early summer.

Director of the International Relations Analysis Center Farid Shafiyev:

– People like Ohanyan have nothing left but populist speeches. Sagatelyan also calls for the actions to start in September.

I’d be very surprised if they get a lot of demonstrators. I don’t think Ohanyan and Co. can change anything. They had an opportunity to fight two years ago and lost. The peace process is progressing, albeit with difficulty, and Armenian society in general understands that a new war will turn into a complete disaster.
