Tokayev signed the law reducing the powers of the President of Kazakhstan
President of Kazakhstan Kasim-Jomart Tokayev signed a number of laws limiting the powers of the head of state on November 5.
The aforementioned package of laws was adopted as a result of the republican referendum on additions and changes to the Constitution in June of this year.
Changes in the president’s local execution implies the reduction of certain powers in relation to the authorities (now the president city and district leaders only locally of deputies can set with his consent).
In Parliamentthe president quota” is reduced, certain restrictions are imposed during the presidency. To the president political membership in parties, and close relatives of the head of state in the quasi-state sector political it is forbidden to hold positions and leadership positions.
In addition, the Constitutional Court will start functioning in Kazakhstan from January 1, 2023. The new laws determine the status, powers and guarantees of independence of the Commissioner for Human Rights. The human rights function of the Prosecutor General is also strengthened.
