Among those involved in the investigation is Azerbaijani-born millionaire and Russian oligarch Farhad Ahmadov

It is reported that the State Security Service from Azerbaijan (DTX) has started investigations into the audio recording of Colonel Babek Samidli, released exclusively by Meydan TV.

A number of persons are being interrogated and procedural actions are being taken in the investigative body of the State Security Service.

Farhad Ahmadov, a Russian oligarch born in Azerbaijan, who was previously this year sanctioned by the European Union on his proximity with Vladimir Putin’s regime, is said to be among those interrogated.

Even though the businessman’s assistant Ruhangiz Seyidova confirmed in an interview early this week that Ahmadov has been summoned to the DTX , it was not announced in which direction the investigation is being conducted.

Meydan TV obtained an audio recording of the conversation of Azerbaijani army colonel Babek Samidli, made shortly after the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War and a few days before his death. The identity of Babek Samidli’s interlocutor is unknown. As deputy commander of the corps, Colonel Samidli took part in the 2020 Karabakh War. He died a few days after the end of the war, blown up by a mine in the village of Sugovushan. Posthumously, he was awarded the medals “For the Motherland”, “Liberation of Sugovushan” and the Order of Victory. Meydan TV presents parts of this audio recording, which includes denounces about the bad conditions of the army, ministry corruption schemes and lack of proper leadership.

From the published information, it is known that the investigation is being conducted not on the shortcomings mentioned by the late colonel, but exclusively on the reason why and how the audio was leaked. Fahrad Ahmadov is one of the suspects.
