UK Royal Mail workers have called off a 24-hour strike – #Royal #Mail #workers #called #24hour #strike

Feb 6 (Reuters) – The Communications Workers Union (CWU) on Monday called off a planned 24-hour strike over pay next week after postal workers at Britain’s Royal Mail received legal challenges from the company.

Lawyers advised the union could defend its position in court, the CWU said in a statement, but added that the risk of losing the case could potentially affect the new vote.

“The laws in this country are very hard on working people,” union lawyers said, adding that “the risks of losing in court could potentially affect the re-vote – we simply cannot allow that to happen.”

The union representing more than 115,000 postal workers at Royal Mail will re-enter talks with Royal Mail Group this week.

The CWU announced a 24-hour strike for all shifts after 12.30pm on February 16 to the Royal Mail Group.

Royal Mail did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment.
