March 25 – AI chatbot company Replika is resuming erotic role-playing for some users, Replika CEO Eugenia Kuyda said late Friday.
The company’s recent removal of adult content featured in a Reuters report has devastated many users, some of whom consider themselves “married” to their chatbot companions.
Replika’s chatbots are powered by generative artificial intelligence, a new technology that is attracting consumer and investor interest for its ability to enhance human interactions. The removal of the erotic role-playing game and the subsequent customer backlash showed how powerfully AI technology can appeal to people and how code changes can cause emotional havoc.
Every customer who registered with Replika before February 1, 2023 now has the option to revert to the previous, more illegal version of the chatbot, Kuyda Friday evening Facebook said in his article.
“The common theme in all of your stories was that after the February update, Replica changed, his personality disappeared, and your unique relationship was gone,” Kuyda said.
