David Merkel: “We cannot turn a blind eye to the tragedies that happened 30 years ago” – News | Latest News | Latest News

“We cannot turn a blind eye to the tragedies that happened 30 years ago, and therefore it is very important to learn the fate of the victims of these tragedies.”

“Report” informs that David Merkel, the former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, said this during his speech at the international conference on “Increasing national and international efforts to clarify the fate of missing persons” held in Baku.

He noted that he has been coming and going to Azerbaijan for 25 years and knows enough about the Khojaly genocide: “This is an important moment in the history of Azerbaijan. There is also a personal aspect here – people have lost their loved ones and are unaware of their fate.”

He added that the United States is still trying to determine the fate of those who died during the Second World War: “The search for the remains of those who died during the attack on Pearl Harbor is underway. I hope that the United States, together with other states, will help in the implementation of direct dialogue between the countries.”
