President Ilham Aliyev: “The issue of missing persons is one of the most serious problems facing Azerbaijan” – News | Latest News | Latest News

The issue of missing persons is one of the most serious problems facing Azerbaijan. During the first Karabakh war, 3890 of our citizens went missing as a result of the occupation of the territories of Azerbaijan by Armenia. There is irrefutable information that 872 of the total number of missing persons were taken as hostages or remained in the occupied territories.
“Report” informs that this was stated in the letter of the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev addressed to the participants of the international conference on “Increasing national and international efforts to clarify the fate of missing persons” held in Baku on September 18.
It was noted that according to reliable information, the missing persons were tortured, killed by Armenia and buried in mass graves in the previously occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
“The issue of determining the fate of missing persons has always been the focus of the Azerbaijani state. In 1993, the State Commission on Captives and Missing Citizens, Hostages, was established and it has been operating efficiently over the years,” the letter emphasized.
