​Iran’s coronavirus death toll surpasses 6,500

Another 55 people died from the coronavirus over the past 24 hours, Health Ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour said, Report informs, citing IRNA.

According to him, 6,541 people have died from the coronavirus.

23 MPs, as well as parliament speaker Ali Larijani, the first Vice-President Ishag Jahangiri, Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Reza Rahmani, Deputy Minister of Health Iraj Harirchi, Vice-President Masoumeh Ebtekar, top advisor of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Akbar Velayati, head of the National Disaster Management Organization Ismail Najjar, and former Minister of Justice Mustafa Purmahammadi, were infected with the coronavirus.

Moreover, MP Fatima Rahbar, former ambassador of Iran to Vatican Hadi Khosrowshahi, a member of the Expediency Council Seyed Mohammad Mirmohammadi, advisor to the foreign minister Hossein Sheikholeslam, member of Assembly of Experts Sayyid Hashim Bathayi died from coronavirus.

MP Zohreh Elahian and Deputy Minister of Health Iraj Harirchi have recovered.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in late 2019 in China’s Hubei province, and the virus has spread to 210 countries and territories since then.

To date, COVID-19 cases reached 3,932,626 globally, resulting in 1,349,138 recoveries and 271,017 deaths.
