Bali to reopen to tourists in October
Bali, the Indonesian island beloved by yogis, surfers, and Australian tourists, is looking to reopen its doors to visitors in October, its government has said, Report informs, citing foreign media.
As of Friday, the island had reported just 343 cases of coronavirus and four deaths – a small percentage of Indonesia’s total of 19,000 cases.
The first destinations to open would be Yogyakarta, on the island of Java, as well as the Riau islands province.
According to the Indonesian National Organization for Tours and Travel (ASITA), 80 percent of Bali people rely on tourism, whether directly or indirectly.
In March, foreign tourist arrivals to Indonesia plummeted more than 60 percent compared to March 2019, and Chinese arrivals dropped by 97 percent.
