​Azerbaijani chess players to compete in Silk Road Cup

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Azerbaijan Chess Federation (ACF), the Georgian Chess Federation (GCF) and SOCAR will organize an international blitz chess tournament.

The “Silk Road Cup” competition dedicated to the Republic Day in Azerbaijan and Independence Day in Georgia will take place on May 26-28, the ACF told Report.

The games will be held on playchess.com virtual gaming platform. A total of 50 players will compete. According to the FIDE coefficient (as of May 1, 2020), the first 12 male, the first 8 females, and the first three U-16 chess players will play in the Silk Road Cup. The Federations are entitled to invite two players with a wild card.

The competition has a total prize fund of 20,000 euros. All the winners will be awarded a cash prize according to their results. The game, which will be organized according to the Swiss system, will consist of 15 rounds.

The first seven rounds will take place at 03:00 pm on May 26, the rest at 06:00 pm on May 28.
