​COVID-19 cases hit 17,000 in Armenia

Armenia confirmed 397 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 17,064, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention said Monday.

As many as 62 more patients have recovered and were discharged from hospitals. The total number of recoveries has reached 6,276.

Sixteen people have died in one day, raising the death toll to 285.

The number of active cases stands at 10,409.

So far, 83,600 people have passed COVID-19 testing in Armenia.

Armenia said on Friday it had extended a state of emergency over the coronavirus outbreak until July 13 as the number of daily infections continues to rise.

Despite the extension of the state of emergency, almost all sectors of the Armenian economy are functioning after businesses reopened in early May to prevent it from collapsing.
