US fighter jet crashes off England coast

The US Air Force confirmed on Monday that an F-15C Eagle jet had crashed in the North Sea. The plane crashed at around 09:40 a.m. local time (0840 GMT), Report says, citing RIA Novosti.

“The aircraft was from the 48th Fighter Wing, RAF Lakenheath, United Kingdom…At the time of the accident, the aircraft was on a routine training mission with one pilot on board.”

The statement added that the cause of the crash, as well as the status of the pilot, are still unknown and that UK Search and Rescue have been deployed.

The aircraft was from RAF Lakenheath, the US Air Force-operated base in England and the only US Air Forces in Europe – Air Forces Africa (USAFE) F-15 fighter wing.

In 2014, a US military helicopter crashed on the coast of eastern England, killing all four crew on board.
