Expert: Baku became negotiating platform for top military leaders

“There is a very high level of military-technical cooperation between official Moscow and Baku. The volume of armaments and military equipment purchased by Azerbaijan from Russia is several times higher than the number of Russian weapons purchased by the CSTO member States. Official Baku is about second only to China in terms of military-technical cooperation with official Moscow. But sometimes the country shares this position with India.”

Alexander Perenjiev, a member of the expert council “Officers of Russia, told the Russian Bureau of Report, commenting on the military cooperation between Russia and Azerbaijan and ways to strengthen it further.

“Moreover, a large number of Azerbaijani officers and cadets are trained in Russian military educational institutions. Besides, Azerbaijanis are also trained in other power structures – the EMERCOM of Russia and Rosgvardiya,” he added.

“I would like to draw attention to the fact that Baku has recently become an almost permanent and main negotiating platform between the top military leaders of Russia and NATO. Therefore, I believe there is a need to consolidate it in this capacity on a contractual basis between the official Moscow, Baku, and the headquarters of the Alliance in Brussels,” the expert said.

Speaking about the prospects for strengthening military cooperation between the countries, Perenjiev noted the importance of its development between the border services, as well as increasing the interaction between rescue agencies in border areas. “I believe that there is a need to conclude a separate agreement between our countries to solve this problem.”
