​COVID-19 cases hit 350,000 in Africa

The number of coronavirus cases in Africa has increased to 356,442, and the death toll stands at 9,156, according to the regional office of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Most infections are in the Republic of South Africa (124,590) and Egypt (61,130). The highest number of deaths was recorded in Egypt (2,533), South Africa (2,340), and Algeria (885).

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in late 2019 in China’s Hubei province, and the virus has spread to more than 200 countries and territories since then.

To date, COVID-19 cases surpassed 9,932,000 globally, resulting in more than 5,381,000 recoveries and over 497,000 deaths.

On February 11, the WHO officially named the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as COVID-19, and on March 11, declared it a pandemic.
