SOCAR’s Vice President attends an online meeting of GGFR Steering Committee

Steering Committee of The World Bank’s Global Gas Flaring Reduction Partnership (GGFR) held an online meeting to discuss the work done in 2019, Report says, citing SOCAR

 Representatives of more than 20 international oil and gas companies and organizations attended the event.

Speaking at the meeting, Program Manager for GGFR Zubin Bamji gave detailed information on the performed work for 2019.

SOCAR Vice-President for ecology, member of the Steering Committee Rafiga Huseyn-zade noted that the report was compiled based on extensive materials, and provided comprehensive information on the work done 2019.

She spoke about the cooperation between SOCAR and BP-Azerbaijan to reduce the volume of flared gas, and positive results achieved at the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli fields and the Sangachal terminal.

Other participants, who spoke at the event said that Azerbaijan would be the first country to reach net-zero carbon target based on the implemented projects and the results achieved. 

SOCAR started working with the World Bank’s GGFR organization in 2008. As a result of mutually beneficial cooperation over the past 12 years, the projects submitted by SOCAR in the category” project on reducing associated petroleum gas flaring” in 2012 and 2015 were highly evaluated by the World Bank and the GGFR organization and given the highest awards.
