Trump opposes demolition of ex-presidents’ monuments in Washington

US President Donald Trump has rejected the Washington mayor’s office’s recommendations to raze the statues of former heads of state in the city, stated White House.

Report informs, citing Gazeta.ru, by making such a statement, the mayor of Washington repeats the left-wing’s actions to incite dangerous riots – the destruction of US history and heritage.

Trump believes that these monuments should be treated with respect and protected. The document also says that the mayor’s irresponsible recommendations during Trump’s presidency will not lead to anything.

On August 31, a select committee of the mayor’s office urged the government to rename, remove or conceptualize 1,330 facilities due to racism. In particular, the committee recommended the potential demolition of the memorials of George Washington, Hriftofer Columbus, Andrew Jackson, and Thomas Jefferson.

In May, a wave of anti-monument protests erupted in the United States following mass protests against police brutality that resulted in the death of African American George Floyd.
