SOCAR Turkey expanding fight against marine pollution

SOCAR Turkey, the biggest foreign direct investor in Turkey, along with strategic investments in the country’s economy, also continuously implements environmental and social projects, the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) told Report.

SOCAR Turkey is increasing its potential to combat possible sea pollution in the Aliaga region of the Aegean Sea. Potential pollution is prevented thanks to the Marine Pollution Control Center set up in the coastal structures of SOCAR Turkey’s refining and petrochemical division and the Aliaga Responder vessel on duty 24 hours a day.

SOCAR Turkey, which has always paid great attention to environmental protection, labor safety and human health, has created a reliable protective barrier against sea pollution in Aliaga, the investment and trade center of the Aegean region.

Koray Koyuncu, spokesman for the CEO of SOCAR Turkey, said that the professional team of the company and the Aliaga Responder vessel, with its modern equipment, are ready at any time to serve all companies operating in the field of refining, petrochemicals and warehousing in Aliaga, and solve any problems that may arise in the region.

Three levels in terms of waste volumes are defined in Turkey. Waste related to the first and second levels are disposed of by the companies. At the third level (when the level of pollution is high), the state intervenes. From this point of view, all companies that trade in the maritime space and bear the risk of waste, such as SOCAR Turkey, create an emergency service both at the expense of internal and external funds. SOCAR Turkey leases the Aliaga Responder vessel due to large investments in Aliaga to better manage the related risks.
