Georgian opposition leader sets condition for release
The chairman of the Georgian opposition United National Movement, Nika Melia, has addressed an appeal to the ruling Georgian Dream Party.
Report informs that He called on the party to remove the Law on Amnesty from the parliamentary agenda once and for all.
According to him, if this is not possible, the amnesty should apply only to those who protested against the Russian Duma deputy Sergei Gavrilov during the events of July 2019: “I am ready to leave prison on bail offered by the European Union if you call back the amnesty.”
The plan to overcome the political crisis signed between the government and the opposition in Georgia on April 19 with the mediation of the European Union includes the adoption of a law on amnesty for all detainees from 19-21 November 2019.
The next hearing in Melia’s case is scheduled for April 29.
