Japan Airlines’ losses total $2.6B

Japan Airlines (JAL), one of the largest airlines in Japan, had a net loss of 286.6 billion yen (about $2.6 billion) in the fiscal year 2020 (April 1, 2020 – March 31, 2021), according to the airlines’ website, Report informs referring to TASS.

The document emphasizes that the losses of JAL are caused by the impact of the spread of the novel coronavirus. At the same time, the airline didn’t publish a forecast of its indicators for the 2021 financial year due to the difficulty of reliably assessing the prospects for a recovery in demand for international flights.

On December 28, 2020, a de facto ban on issuing new visas to citizens of all countries and regions of the world came into force in Japan due to the discovery of a new strain of coronavirus in the UK. Currently, only Japanese citizens and foreigners who permanently reside in Japan and have long-term visas can enter the country.
