SOCAR: Azerbaijan will produce and supply hydrogen to Europe

Reducing the carbon footprint is the inevitability of the development of oil and gas companies and the entire world economy as a whole, Farid Jafarov, General Director of SOKAR Rus, SOCAR’s subsidiary in Russia, said in an interview with Russian media.

Report informs that, according to him, SOCAR is already implementing several projects in this direction: “First of all, this is the production of hydrogen in Absheron for further transportation along the Southern Gas Corridor to consumers in Europe. We are talking about a program of complete zeroing, burning of associated petroleum gas until 2022. We are eyeing various projects at the intersection of traditional and innovative technologies. “

“One of the projects we are considering is the production of ammonium directly in the field from associated petroleum gas, capturing and injecting carbon emissions back into the reservoir to maintain reservoir pressure, as well as transporting this ammonia to Europe as a feedstock for further hydrogen production. Overall, we have minimal carbon emissions down the chain. Our company fits into the strategy of the state, which was approved by the President of Azerbaijan. The strategy is to achieve the goal of zero emissions by 2050,” he said.
