Georgian premier, NATO Military Committee chief discuss security, defense reforms

“In view of the current situation in the region, the importance of NATO’s active involvement in the security process in the Black Sea is growing,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili told a meeting with Admiral Rob Bauer, chair of the NATO Military Committee, the local bureau of Report informs.

In his view, visits of members of NATO’s highest military body to Georgia is an indication of the alliance’s strong support for the country’s independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty.

Garibashvili said that Georgia, as a NATO ally, is committed to common security principles and values, joins the allies’ efforts to ensure global peace and security, as evidenced by Georgia’s role in supporting transit and evacuation from Afghanistan.

The sides also discussed defense reforms in Georgia, cooperation with international partners in bilateral and multilateral formats, as well as the effective use of political and practical cooperation mechanisms with NATO.
