France to host int’l conf to promote ban on death penalty universally

In the first half of 2022, France will host an international conference with the goal of universal abolition of the death penalty.

Report informs, citing TASS that this was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the abolition of the death penalty in France.

“As part of the French presidency of the EU, together with non-governmental organizations, we will hold a conference in Paris to convince the governments of those states, where the death penalty is still applied to abandon this shameful act,” he said.

Macron also said that, together with partners in the European Union, Paris at the next session of the UN General Assembly will submit a draft resolution, demanding that states that have not abolished the death penalty provide the UN with information on the number of death sentences imposed and carried out.
